International Women’s Day is more than just a celebration; it is a moment to honor the strength, perseverance, and resilience of women who have paved the way for us, shaping the world through their sacrifices, courage, and brilliance.

As a Haitian cosmetic chemist and entrepreneur, I know firsthand how challenging it is to step into the unknown and build something from scratch. Eighteen years ago, I started my skincare business, Morganna’s Alchemy, as an unknown brand in a competitive industry. But what fueled me wasn’t just a love for science—it was the inspiration of the powerful women in my life, particularly my grandmother, who instilled in me the values of resilience, bravery, and unwavering determination.

My Grandmother’s Story: A True Definition of Strength

In 1961, my grandmother found herself widowed with four young children when my grandfather, a colonel in the Haitian army, was brutally murdered by the Duvalier regime. Many women in her position would have fled, seeking safety in another country. But my grandmother stood her ground, refusing to abandon Haiti, despite the unimaginable fear and uncertainty she faced.

Instead of running, she chose to fight—not with weapons, but with acts of bravery that saved countless lives.

💡 She secretly transported political dissidents to embassies, helping them escape persecution.
💡 She hid people in her home, warning them when they were on the government’s arrest list.
💡 She provided safety and guidance while raising four children alone on a minimal salary.

Her courage was not just about survival—it was about preserving the lives of others, fighting injustice, and proving that a woman’s strength knows no limits. She was not a soldier, but she was a warrior in her own right, showing me and generations to come that we rise not just for ourselves, but for others.

How Her Legacy Shaped My Journey as a Skincare Entrepreneur

💡 Her strength became my foundation. Growing up with her as my role model, I learned that adversity is not an excuse to stop—it is the reason to push forward.

💡 Her resilience shaped my mindset. When I started Morganna’s Alchemy, I faced countless obstacles—being a woman in a male-dominated science industry, launching a skincare brand as an unknown, and breaking through a competitive market. But every challenge I faced, I remembered her words:

“Fear is temporary. Regret is forever.”

💡 Her courage inspired my mission. My grandmother’s fearless spirit taught me the importance of lifting others as we rise. That’s why, through my business, I make it my mission to:
